Our top five tips for securing a great remote job

After the pandemic, remote jobs are in demand more than ever, with the flexibility and comfort they provide. However, as more companies ask employees to come into the office, finding fully remote jobs can be difficult. Here are a few ways you can simplify your job search when looking for remote positions.

Working at a fully remote company will help you avoid some of the issues that remote workers at hybrid/ onsite companies face

Look for fully remote companies

If you’re not interested in going into an office at all, we encourage you to look for jobs at companies that are fully remote. New research has shown that in companies with both remote and hybrid employees, remote workers are more likely to be let go and less likely to be promoted. While some companies publish job postings for remote positions, they might prioritize applicants who are able to go into the office several times a week.

Working at a fully remote company will also help you avoid some of the issues that remote workers at hybrid/ onsite companies face, like feeling out of the loop or struggling to connect with colleagues. Fully remote companies know how to build culture remotely, foster strong communication and collaboration, and engage people who are in different locations.

Create a remote-friendly resume

Highlight capabilities and skills that are important for remote workers to have, including organization, communication skills and technical proficiency. Adding in previous remote experience can also help employers see that you can thrive well in a remote environment. Be sure to include concrete examples of how you’ve worked with remote teams in the past. It is also important to create a resume that is able to be easily scanned through a computer screening process - you can read our article on how to utilize those practices!

On many job sites (including Meytier!), you can use filters to search for fully remote jobs

Tailor your resume to the job

Enhancing your resume with specific terms from the remote job description can not only help it get past the computer screening process, it will also show employers why you’d be great for their job. Consider the job requirements and why your unique skill set would help them achieve their goals.

Be open to other remote setups

Some companies have gone mostly remote, favoring occasional on-sites over daily office attendance. If you’re able to do this, we encourage you to be open to opportunities like these. This can give you the best of both worlds- the flexibility of remote work on a daily basis as well as the benefits of face-to-face time with your colleagues.

Filter job sites for remote positions

Finding remote companies is incredibly important when searching for fully remote jobs. On many job sites (including Meytier!), you can use filters to search for fully remote jobs in your location or any location of your choosing.
