Positive things we’re seeing in the job market right now

We are seeing companies opening and closing roles every single week- adding new team members, planning for future growth, and expanding. It is true that the job market has slowed down. Mostly though, we’re seeing companies just be more judicious about what roles they choose to hire for and how many people they hire but they are hiring.

AI’s ability to take over technical and operational tasks might be a good thing for some candidates. Companies are more willing to hire candidates that might not have every hard skill required for a role. Instead, there is a big emphasis on soft skills and uniquely human skills, adaptability, empathy, team work, and most importantly, a willingness to learn. If you’re job searching right now, make sure you’re emphasizing these skills in your resume and during your interviews.

We have also noticed that offer declines are on the rise. We’re seeing a lot of candidates make it to the final stages of an interview process and then decide to stay put where they are now. So if you’re a candidate who is willing to take a leap of faith into a new role and a new company right now- you might be facing less competition than you think.

The last positive sign is that most companies aren’t doing badly right now. They aren’t slowing down hiring because they’re losing money or business but rather because they are uncertain about what the future holds. This is understandably frustrating for job seekers, especially ones who are out of work or very motivated to land something new. Remember though, this means that hiring could pick back up at any moment. As soon as companies see positive signs in the market, they’re likely to move fast.
