Role - IT Development Manager

Position Summary

The Development Manager role oversees a team of software developers (including both FTE and third-party vendor resources) design, develop, refactor and maintain software enhancements and projects to the web facing Operations and money manager portals and related applications as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a development team in Concord, CA and Phoenix, AZ.
  • Responsible for managing onshore/offshore development resources to meet project deadlines, resolving technical blocks and ensuring the highest level of quality
  • Experience in project estimation, demand management and forecasting of technical resources
  • Working with other Senior Software Engineers, Database Developers, and Architects to design solutions, perform technology assessments and enforce standards, processes and source control management
  • Responsible for coordinating deployment plans, environment setup and coordinating with other technology groups
  • Can actively identify, manage, quantify and escalate risks to various internal and external stakeholders
  • Able to balance the need to refactor the site to make it more scalable and easy to maintain with the business goals and deadlines to ensure we leverage opportunities to bring the site up to current standards while still delivering against the project roadmap.
  • Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job, participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training
  • Ensure that team members have appropriate product and technical specifications, direction, and resources to deliver products effectively by establishing realistic estimates for timelines while ensuring that projects remain on target to meet deadlines
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders for understanding the system’s functional and non-functional requirements
  • Evolve the existing software system applications and architecture in various areas as needed
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities with the deployment of software corrections, enhancements and continuous improvements that are coordinated based on release schedules
  • Help developers resolve both technical problems as well as human resources issues
  • Monitor individual employees’ performance, including career goals, time off, HR matters and workload/throughput.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to coach, motivate, and lead team members to their optimum performance levels and career development

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience
  • Advanced Degree is a plus
  • Experience in financial services domain is preferred
  • 4 plus years of experience in a Technical managerial role
  • 3 plus years of experience leading a team of on/offshore developers, ensuring architecture and design meet product requirements, and responsible for delivering high-quality products and solutions on time and on budget
  • Knowledge of Design Patterns, Service Oriented Architecture, and n-Tier Client/Server Architecture
  • Is well versed in modern software development methodologies, processes, tools, and technology standards and can effectively outline relevant parts needed for a project
  • Experience with distributed, enterprise-class applications
  • Scalable, high-availability designs
